Story of a pencil - Zen O Zen - Part - 3

Image
An inspirational parable of a pencil maker and his pencil which encourages you to know that you are a special person and only you can fulfill the purpose to which you were born to accomplish. The Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box. "There are 5 things you need to know," he told the pencil, "Before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be." " One : You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in Someone's hand." You are capable of great things, but you must never forget that there is a hand guiding your steps. We call that hand God, and He always guides us according to His will.’ " Two : You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you'll need it to become a better pencil."  L earn to bear certain pains and sorrows, because they will make you a better p...

Terima Kasih Bali - Akkarai seemai azhaginile - Part -2

Honesty - Seldom do we get to see honest people. When in my own motherland , the auto rickshaw walah took away my purse which had a low cost mobile, pancard and some chillar money in it couple of years ago in front of my eyes, how can I have any expectation from a foreign land , where thousands of tourists come and go daily? That is how I felt when my partner lost his wallet in Bali , where we were out on a holiday trip few months ago. Two more days to go for the return flight, hotel bills to be settled and our daily needs to met for the rest of the trip with two little kids, we were slightly disheartened that our hardearned money had gone for a toss. With no hope of  getting our wallet back, we continued to search in the crowded zoo of Bali, where we took an elephant ride 2 hours before we actually realised that we lost our wallet. All the Zen I think and speak about , had completely flown out of me. That is when the local Bali guide who was with us a...

You know it's not your first...

Image
I read a forum thread yesterday here in babycenter , a place where 90% of the mums would have visited atleast once. It was so cool to see the humorous side of these mummies. Sharing some of them here and for the rest you can refer the link above... :) You know it's not your first when: You can change the messiest of messy diaper blow outs on the front seat of your car in 60 seconds or less. Your first question to a hurt child is, is there blood? No? Then you’re fine. You snap pictures while grandpa feeds baby basically an entire ice cream bar. You don't freak out over the tv being on more than an hour a day. You become less concerned about killing your youngest and more concerned with your kids killing each other. You are asked "the child's date of birth?" and you have to pause a moment to get all the birth dates numbers right in your head before responding. You kick your kids outside and tell them to play and you dont want to see them until supper! ...

All about YOU !

Image
'The You Code' written by Judi James and James Moore. This book explains the hidden meaning behind all your habits and choices to show what people really think of it and you can find out everything you want to know about your friends, colleagues or even a potential mate, without asking them a single question... An amusing read !! So here is an extract from the book: What your Net habits say? Facebookers : You are someone who uses social life to endorse and stroke your ego because this site is all about numbers than quality of chat. 'I have three hundred friends' is the frequent boast of the facebooker and the fact that you have never met your 'friends' and that you could be conversing with a serial killer doesn't matter one jot. Trusting and boastful witha coating of superficiality and fun around a hard centre of low self esteem. Twitterers : If you're a twitterer there's a strong whiff of narcissism about you because you must live in th...

Boredom - Zen O Zen - Part 2

Image
Boredom !! A common word in our day to day life. All are bored. Stay at home moms are bored, working professionals  are bored, students are bored and even kids under 5 are bored, utterly bored. Reason to be bored- same cleaning, same job, same books, same games , same programmes on tv and there is nothing new. Note the point - 'Nothing New'!! For something new to happen , someone has to create it. Only when we stop being 'creative', there is boredom. When we don't enjoy what we are doing 'We are bored'. We are caught in a pattern. Our pattern is fixed. This could be applied to any activity, person or things in our day to day life. As Osho puts it - "You come to the house, you look at your wife in a particular pattern that has become fixed. You may not observe – you are not observing many things. The wife may be happy but you have become fixed with an idea: ”My wife and happy? – it is impossible!” She may be happy but you cannot see. You have a pat...

Love is in the air............................

A special post for the valentine season. This story has been taken from Paulo Coelho 's blog . An awesome eyeopener !! Here it goes.. A master asked his disciples:‘Why do we shout in anger? Why do people shout at each other when they are upset? The disciples thought for a while, and one of them said‘Because we lose our calm, we shout for that.’ ‘But, why to shout when the other person is just next to you? ‘Isn’t it possible to speak to him or her with a soft voice? Why do you shout at a person when you’re angry?’ The disciples gave him some other answers but none satisfied the master. Finally he explained: ‘ When two people are angry at each other, their hearts distance a lot. To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other through that great distance.’Then the master asked:‘What happens when two people fall in love? They don’t shout at each other but talk softly, why? Becau...

Zen O Zen - Part 1

Image
This  'Zen o Zen' series is my quest for zen that started in 2007 and will contain some wonderful zen thoughts that I would like to share as it could be of great help to those who are in search of peace and happiness. In the process of finding happiness , we either rely on the things that has happened in the past or that we are expecting to happen in future. No one bothers to find it in their present.  Below is the excerpt from Dr. Martin luther king Jr.'s speech. Awesome lines....must read for all those who complain about their present state, the work they do or they are forced to do!! And when you discover what you will be in your life, set out to do it as if God Almighty called you at this particular moment in history to do it. don't just set out to do a good job. Set out to do such a good job that the living, the dead or the unborn couldn't do it any better. If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, swe...

Happy Twenty twelve

New year and a new beginning. Its been 3 long months since the last post. When everyone is thinking that I am all done with my Mokkai, here I am kick starting the new year with this Mokkai post. My blog status has crossed 5000, and this time genuinely I haven't contributed even a single hit to this count as my laptop had made me go bonkers refusing to boot (even my laptop couldn't bear my Mokkai and went on a strike!!). Thanks to all those who visited this blog and kept the counter going. Looking forward to a Zen 'o' Zen year !!
