CWG Garam masala

Before the beginning of  CWG, the Canadian Newspaper 'National Post' tore India apart describing its Commonwealth Games preparations as ‘a bad joke’ on the world and said India was frittering away what could have been its ’showcase moment’. ‘Monsoon rains, a dengue fever epidemic, car bombs, a collapsing pedestrian bridge, corrupt construction rackets, traffic Armageddon, indifferent politicians and a filthy athletes’ village that does not even have proper plumbing yet. Or wiring. Or paint on the walls,’ the National Post wrote . The paper said, India’s showcase moment is at hand. The entire world is watching. But what the entire world is seeing – at least so far – looks more like the travails of a First World wannabe nation still struggling with its lingering Third World problems.” But amid all this, the paper said, ‘the good news is, the Indians don’t seem to be too worried. Anyways, media can't be blamed for the damage done to India's image. The Delhi Government, ...

Five Point Endhiran

Image
1. Rajni's gimmicks are missing. An utter disappointment !!! என்ன இருந்தாலும் தலைவர் ஸ்டைல், dialogue னு ஒண்ணுமே இல்லாம ... 2. Chitti takes the film on his shoulders. He looks so dumb as good robot (even the scientist for that matter). He is  a rockstar as villain. May be Superstar didn't want to miss the chance!! 3. Aishwarya's wrinkles shows the time taken to make endhiran 4. Santhanam and Karuna's so called comedy fails infront of Chittis's robotic antics!! 5. Villain Rajni saved the movie !!!! Otherwise, the movie's fate would have been Science fiction Baba movie !!! I appreciate the effort put on graphics. Endhiran did set standard for graphics. (எந்திரன்க்கு முன் and எந்திரன்க்கு பின்) தலைவா  ஆனா உன்னை இந்த படத்தில பார்க்க முடியலை  .... Endhiran is saved by thandhiran Kalanidhi Maran !!!!

This is what they think ......

Oru kodam....

Image
'Oru kodam' is a beautiful song, which doesn't contain any spritual content and yet a soul stirring and stimulating song. This song was prepared by 'Sounds of Isha' for Project Greenhands : An ecological initiative of Isha Foundation. It aims to inspire people around the world to appreciate the true value of trees and the vital role that they play within human environments. I am very sure that if you hear this song once,  it is going to ring in your ears even if you don't want to hear it again. PS: Naan Podum Mokkai is active again

Exam fever

Image
Students caught inbetween IPL and exam season reminds me of one of my exam nightmares. Eventhough there are many.. this one is special as I always say, situation turned in my favour. (Over நினைப்பு  தான் !!). Being the daughter of a banker who gets transferred every 3 to 4 years , I have studied in 8 schools. Studying in different schools has its own plus and minus... ok ok .. I won't lecture you on that by the way one major minus was that you have to build your image of a good student from scratch with every new school because teachers usually go by word of mouth from previous year teachers and determine their 'Gems' for the next academic year. Impress பண்ணனும்  இல்லைபண்ணலைனா சின்ன  matterku எல்லாம் ஆப்பு  veppanga  !!.. So being or acting like a good student forms a protective cover and that will give you 100% scoldings proof protection. Quarterly Exams were about to begin. The class teacher dictated the exam time table...

What women should have and should know!!!

Image
This is a famous list written by Pamela Redmond Satron for Glamour Magazine in the year 1997 and last updated in 2005. This list was circulated as chain email with many claiming it as their own  and at one point reached the author's inbox as well. It is a MUST READ list for any woman who is 20,30 or even 60 !!! Every woman should have: 1.One old boyfriend you can imagine going back to and one who reminds you of how far you’ve come. (Even if you don't want to) 2.A decent piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in your family. 3.Something perfect to wear if the employer or man of your dreams wants to see you in an hour. 4.A purse, a suitcase and an umbrella you’re not ashamed to be seen carrying. 5.A youth you’re content to move beyond. 6.A past juicy enough that you’re looking forward to retelling it in your old age. 7.The realization that you are actually going to have an old age—and some money set aside to help fund it. 8.An e-mail address, ...

Another train incident !!!.. No this one doesn't involve me and I was just a spectator. A family boarded the train and occupied the seats opposite to us. The father pushed the luggage under the berth and the rest (mother , son of 10 or 12, daughter around 8 ) took their seats. I suppose the father was in his late 30's and gave an impression that he occupied a good post in a top notch IT company. As soon as he settled in his seat , he started asking (or should I say shooting) questions to his son. The son had a neutral expression and started answering the questions one by one. The questions were thrown from varied fields of interest (of the father). The question answer session was more of like dad flaunting his GK skills rather than the kid. Train start ஆனவுடனே போட ஆரம்பிச்ச மொக்கை ... போடறாரு போடறாரு ஒரு one hour ... blood  same blood case தான்  !!! Poor boy .. he was just trying to answer right or wrong ignoring all the glar...

Doncaster disaster -அக்கறை சீமை அழகினிலே - Part 1

Image
This happened last year in UK when we had to travel to London by train from Huddersfield. We booked the ticket in advance as it has discount offers attached to it. There was no direct train at 7:00 in the morning so we had to reach Wakefield and take a connecting train to London. The total journey is around 2 and 1/2 hours so we would reach London by 9:30 AM. We reached Wakefield by 7:25 AM bang on time. Our connecting train was at 7:35 in another platform. மூட்டை முடிச்சு எடுத்துக்கிட்டு we reached the other platform. There was a train standing there and it was about to leave. It was train to London. இதுல என்ன பெரிய விஷயம் தானே யோசிக்கறிங்க !! அங்க தான்  விஷயமே !!!! I asked the guard standing near the first class coach for our coach and he said " Hurry up lady , the train will leave now, get in here and you can walk inside to your compartment ".... என்னை யோசிக்கவே விடலை .... I pulled my hubby and son in to the train and the door was closed. Only then my better half t...

Corporate Culture !!!!

Corporate culture....a culture that seems uniform throughout the world and considered  universal varies from one part of the world to the other.  There are four basic types of corporate culture (till now ...... My research (இது என்ன புது கதை) data shows only these !!) : 1. Incubator :  In this type of culture, personal existence is more important than organization. Self expression and Self fulfillment are given the first preference. Employees are given more opportunities to be creative and innovative !!!! (குழந்தை மாதிரி பார்த்துபாங்களா!!!) Eager to know which part of the world it is followed...fly to Sweden 2. Guided missile:  Loyalty to projects are important. People work in team. Employees are supposed to be task oriented. Very impersonal approach. Most of the Software companies follow this as it is the culture of USA ,UK and Canada !!! (பல பேரோட வண்டி இதுலதான் ஓடுது !!!) 3. Family: Employees maintain a personal and ...

There are 'Reality shows' and then there are 'REALITY SHOWS'. Rakhi Sawant who claimed herself to be having  a 'genuine attitude' towards 'Swayamvar' has made a mockery out of it sooner than anybody expected it to happen. She came  'ISHTYLE SE', got engaged  'ISHTYLE SE' and dumped that guy Eelesh 'ISHTYLE SE'. I didn't watch 'Rakhi ka Swayamvar' (How can I miss such an important show?...होता  है  यार !...but did see her नखरे  in 'Pati patni aur woh' and 'Bigg Boss'). That day is not far when 'Rakhi ka Divorce' will be shown as reality show in the same channel but right now they must preparing the concept for her next Swayamvar. Here comes Season-2.......'Rahul dulhaniya le jaayega'...a guy surrounded by 15 prospective brides...............I know Rahul Mahajan is having a great time at the expense of NDTV Imagine. It has been a week since it is on air. These gorgeous and Intelligent gir...

Bus number 105

Image
It was one of my first days in college as a Lecturer. I was commuting by college bus as it was considered fastest and  special credit to driver thatha (ரொம்ப நல்லவரு !!) of bus number 105. He usually considered his bus as super fast deluxe with addon features like....on time arrival/departure,  passengers get to hear FM on good quality stereo and seats are not cramped ....so ample space for students and staff who will reach chennai in less than hour with driver thatha driving at the speed of 70km/hour. Since it was chennai bus, students were given privilege of passing on cassettes to the driver which was usually considered  offence in other two buses. ( அது college இல்லை school). First few rows of seats were reserved for staff and the rest were open to students. 105 is for chennai ..it will bye pass..all the லொட்டு லொசுக்கு  stoppings...(ஓட்டறது யாரு !!)...

Adding Glitz and Glamour to my blog

Image
Any guesses why I am posting it on my blog....just to add a bit of glitz and glamour !!! Salwar - The most convenient and unexceptional alternative to a sari - It is the one that flatters practically any body-type. The salwar-kameez can be formal, casual, dressy, or plain; and it can also be made to suit practically all climates. Types of Salwars 1. Indian regular salwar : Regular salwar is a loose trouser having wide legs at the top portion that becomes narrow at the end(the feet side). 2. Churidhar: The churidar is actually pants made in such a way that it is tight from the knee down and loose and comfortable from the knee up. 3. Anarkali Anarkali - The court dancer of the Mughal emperor Akbar and the love of his famous son Salim used to perform her dances in a typical dress that resembled plain umbrella patterned skirts at the bottom and an embellished choli or blouse at the top. This ethnic wear was made most popular, bollywood actress Madhuba...

Money, Happiness and Success !!! - Part II

Image
After reading my Part-I, many still preferred the first option- money, career, and power the only measure of success. Yes everything I mentioned in my article is important, but my intention was just to get an answer for "How much the money cost us" question. I truly understand that a life with an aim is meaningful than an aimless life. Have we ever realised that inorder to give life a meaning we are ignoring the life itself? The one who says 'I don't need money' has the most. The point I want to make here is that once you had all the money you want and bought all the things you want, what next? Nothing...its going to be another phase of more and more money to make! Once you are done with it, just look back at the journey if you are happy then that is success and thats how these three are related and that is how success is measured !!! Journey is the destination. Reaching the destination has no meaning unless and untill you have enjoyed every moment of your journ...

Money, Happiness and Success !!!

Image
खुश है ज़माना आज पहली तारीख है......Most of us would have heard this  as an old hindi song or in cadbury's jingle that comes on the first and last week of every month on television. Money and happiness are considered interrelated by most of us. I came across this wonderful saying in a news daily recently.  " How much money it costs is not the issue, but how much the money costs us is important". As one of our Hindu saint puts it -  We spend half our health to gain wealth and spend half our wealth to gain back the health. Is this called success? No, its a very bad mathematics !!! Are money, career, and power the only measure of success? or Should family, health, love and memories count much more ?

I have been tagged..........

Image
I have been tagged by my bro  with honest scrap. Thanks Hari ! You knew very well that I need some stuff for my next post. Here are the 5 rules (to be strictly followed by those I tag in this post!): 1. Thank the person from whom you have received the award listing his / her blog link 2. List 10 honest things about yourself (like I shall do here) 3. Paste the ‘Honest Scrap’ logo on your blog (this is self-evident as my title for this post says) 4. Choose 7 other worthy bloggers and list their links (spread the joy) 5. Notify the bloggers of the award, requesting them to follow the rules (so that they will not miss to notice) Now for the 10 honest things : 10. I have very few friends. My friends rarely have time, leave alone to write even to read. So sorry hari the tag ends here. 9. You should be intelligent enought to figure out that around 80% of the time I am the spoilsport. 8. I hate megaserials. I don't know how these ladies cry nonstop for days !!!( ...

On Social networking sites

Image
Orkut, Facebook, Twitter, Hi5 and the list goes on....Social networking sites has become part of everyone who is attached to the internet.  The number of people signing up for these sites are rising day by day. What do people get out these sites? Some use it to find new friends and some to get in touch with old friends. Then there are those who use it to find people who have the same problems or interests they have, this is called niche networking. However, there is still a argument on whether social networking sites are boon or bane !! These sites are just an addiction more than anything else. With all your personal, professional details, albums and messages posted on these sites, you can never be sure who is going through all your details or keeping tab on your latest developments. It is up to the user to use these sites responsibly. Once Karan johar confessed in Farah khan’s chat show ‘Tere Mere Beach mein’ on Starplus: “I love acce...

Colours - I love them all !!!!!

Colour is a powerful psychological tool. Colours can be used to convey any sort of message. It can calm, excite, soothe, bewilder, depress or impress the onlooker. Different religions and cultures have different meanings associated with every colour. The stuff I am going to put over here is a generalized one. Black :   It is a powerful colour. It is usually associated with authority and power. It absorbs colours and reflects nothing back. Fashionists appreciate black as they consider it to be extremely stylish and posh colour. Black signifies mystery, drama and eccentricity. Since it is mysterious colour, it is connected with negative forces and the unknown. Ladies who are on heavier side can hide their extra pounds by wearing a black attire as it gives them thinner and chic look. Black is a serious colour and can evoke strong emotions. White: White is associated with purity. It is a neutral colour. It is a compression of all colours.Utilizing the effects of white colo...

Welcoming 2010 with Q & A !!!!!!

Three questions for the new year :   What is the best time to do each thing? Who are the most important people to work with? What is the most important thing to do at all times?   The most important time is now; The most important person is always the one you are with; The most important pursuit is making the person standing at your side happy. " People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk on water or in thin air but to walk on earth. Everyday we are engaged in a miracle which we don't recognize: blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child- our own two eyes- All is a miracle" - Thich Nhat Hanh An ultimate question to ponder and think about:   Are people happy when good things happen to them ?   or   Does good things happen to those who are happy?   Think about it .....The latter has more truth in it
