The leaves fell from the tree and said goodbye to it,” We are falling apart at this moment and don’t know when we will meet again”. Soon the tree caught fire but the bird in the tree choose to stay. The tree baffled by bird’s response asks, “Hey bird, why don’t you fly when you have wings? The bird replied, “I ate the fruits of the tree and soiled its leaves. It's not right on my part to fly away but burn with it”.
Dharmdas asks his friend Kabirdas, “Friend, whom should I love? Kabirdas replies, “Keep the company of virtuous and pure”. Then, Kabirdas depicts the effect of company in the form of a song which describes the special relationship between a bird and a tree-“When you plant a bamboo tree, the whole forest trembles. When the bamboo tree burns, the whole forest burn along with it but when you plant a sandalwood tree, the whole forest becomes fragrant. Even I smell nice standing near it. When fire engulfed the forest, the bird refused to leave a tree because it ate its fruits, soiled its leaves and played on its branches. The tree asks the bird – “I burn because of my roots, Why don’t you fly when you have wings?” The bird professes its love for the tree, “How can I leave you to burn and fly away when you live and love once?”. The bird flew to the nearby river brought water in its beak to douse the fire. The other animals questioned its effort to save the tree and warned that it will burn along with the tree, but the bird ignored and continued its effort despite burns. God watched from above and was moved by the bird, came in the form of clouds. Its started to rain milk. Kabirdas concludes by saying ,”Dharmdas, everyday my love is new”.
